Baroness Ritchie

The Daily Telegraph published a full and very generous obituary of Baroness Ritchie.
Though the Dame and the Baroness were sometimes at loggerheads the Dame was well aware that Lady Ritchie was quick to help residents in need.

Her compassionate nature really stands out in her dealings with Full of Life. Shireen Ritchie was adamant Full of Life should be allowed to stay where they were until suitable, alternative accommodation be found. Had she not so insisted there is no doubt others would have tried to displace Full of Life.
The children using Full of Life have much to be be grateful to Lady Ritchie for.

  1. shame that you and others on this web site attack her while she was known to be ill

You do talk complete and utter rubbish. As soon as the site knew Shireen Ritchie was unwell no further reference was made to her: apart from one which complimented her on her role in protecting Full of Life.
If you are going to make such simplistic and baseless charges....check your facts.

  3. your memory is slipping.

I note that this blog has had articles and comments disappear with no trace there after - I wonder who could do that?

  5. I have searched on the site and could find no rude reference to Lady Ritchie
in the period when she was ill so why accuse the Dame of something that just did not happen.Yes, before she became ill there was very robust comment but that happens in politics. It's the price you pay for your fat allowance.

  6. The Dame behaved impeccably, in fact one reference wished her a speedy recovery. I think that the Dame has demonstrated fairness regarding what Lady Ritchie did for local people, it was not just for Full of Life. She supported residents in a quiet, reserved manner, but with a steely determination to get things right, this was her style.

Politics is a very horrible 'business'. To keep some form of humanity, honour, dignity and respect is a very difficult thing to do when others behave appallingly around you, try to belittle you or stamp on you, but Shireen rose above this and achieved much.

She completely understood vulnerability and worked hard to make sure disabled children, and young adults, children in foster care or waiting for adoption were not only cared for but had the best chances in life. This is one of her legacies which should be continued and built upon.

She faced her illness with quiet, dignified courage and should be respected by everyone for that, not many of us could do the same.

  7. Indeed, it must not be forgotten that it was her duty to support organizations supporting vulnerable people, that's what we hope all our Councillors would/should be doing! She supported many good causes in the Borough not just one one mentioned.
    May she rest in peace.

I assume you refer the deletion of comment relating to the convicted child porn cllr, Andrew Lamont.
Nothing sinister here....removal was suggested on the basis that comments could be in contempt of court

    - If she wasnt up to the job owing to illness, as unfortunate and regretful as it is, she should have resigned.
