THE MAYOR AND HIS CHRISTMAS PARTY

In the Mayor's Parlour Cllr Buckmaster is drawing up his Christmas Party list: in this he should be judicious-and wise.
For the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Borwick, it has been an excellent year...so far.
Cllr Donovan, Mayor of H&F and Cllr Buckmaster
supporting British companies
They have both greatly enhanced the scope of the Mayoral Office and made a dynamic and effective team. And that leads the Dame back to the Invitation List......
It would be a grave error of judgement were the Mayor to invite his old chum, ex mayor Barry Phelps, to his Christmas bash.
Last time round the Mayor gave the excuse that Phelps had not been prosecuted for circulating, on the RBKC email server, images of young boys in suggestive poses.
Twelve months is an age in politics. With the Savile affair in our minds people are far more judgmental about the behaviour of figures in public life...even at a lowly level.
THE DISTURBING EMAIL IMAGES
The emails Phelps sent out may not be the stuff of a criminal prosecution, but they bought shame upon the Council. If only for that reason Phelps should not be invited.

Err on the side of caution, Your Worship....do not ask this man to your party.

  1. We should not be paying for the entertainment of perverts

  2. For two years, the Dame has campaigned against the entertainment of disgraced ex Cllr Phelps in the Town Hall at public expense. It is incredible that such a travesty is being contemplated again. What is the compulsion to entertain this low life?

    ReplyDelete
  3. The question for all residents to ask is "Can we trust the current High Command in Hornton Street with self regulation?"

FOI's show that the process for approving invites to the Mayor's Parties (and there are three parties every year for a couple of hundred people every time)is the invitation list for the last party with names added or subtracted by the Mayor and then vetted by the Leader. Much of the list is "customary". No one is barred by rules covering bad conduct. It is all at the discretion of the Mayor and the Leader. Phelps has slipped through the discretion net EVERY TIME since he was fired. He and his partner get their embossed invitations, they dress up, and show up.

This is a private fiefdom at work. It is a scandal. Courtesy of the tax payer. The Mayor and Pooter judge that Phelps is worthy of an invitation. Well these two silly people should look again at the pictures of young boys and captions that 70 year old Phelps liked to send to his friends on the council computer system

If Cllr Cockell wants to entertain his close friend Phelps at his private home, that is his business. But not at publicly funded events in our Town Hall

    1. The operative words are that it is OUR TOWN HALL. It is not Buckmaster's Town Hall and it is not Cockell's Town Hall. These elected politicians need to be sensitive to public opinion

  4. The Dame cannot be serious that ANOTHER invitation to Town Hall drinks is on its way to disgraced ex Cllr Phelps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. All serving Councillors are invited to the Mayor's Christmas Party. And quite right too. But serving Councillors should boycott the Party if Phelps shows up again

  6. The Savile abuse cases very clearly demonstrate what happens when people in power do nothing and people who feel they have no power are incapable of defending themselves, the end result is that very vulnerable people are abused and this abuse is never healed.

To think that Phelps et al could be considered as part of a Christmas Party or any Party in OUR Town Hall is unacceptable.

I sincerely hope that The Mayor and Mayoress stand for what should be the core principals of any society to protect the vulnerable.

It is time for the local paper, the K&C Chronicle, and also the Evening Standard, to ask the question: "Cllr Cockell, why as Leader of K&C do you continue to allow Official Invitations to Town Hall functions be sent to disgraced ex Cllr Phelps after he was fired for sending indecent images of young boys on the Council's computer system?"

      Delete
    2. The K&C Chronicle is a completely useless paper, its another Borough mouthpiece. Lets hope the Evening Standard has some curious, intelligent journalists, who like to out the truth.

  7. Phelps has a bolthole in Ledbury. If he dares turn up to the Mayor's Party I will send all the details of his resignation to the Ledbury Reporter. In Herefordshire people are a lot less forgiving than the likes of Cllr Buckmaster.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Phelps is rumoured to have something on the Leader who is terrified of him. But this, or anything else, is no excuse for Cllr Cockell to continue authorising the entertainment of Phelps in the Town HAll using public funds

    ReplyDelete
  9. Buckmaster, Moylan and Phelps are mates. They stick together. It will be a disgrace if Buckmaster greets the rat (again) at his Christmas Party in the Town Hall with the words "Barry, how nice to see you". Makes your skin crawl.

    ReplyDelete
  10. It is time for the pathetic bunch of Conservative Councillors to tell their Leader "Enough is enough. No more Phelps".

    1. The Tory backbenchers know that they will be punished if they speak out and they are afraid of becoming banished souls like Cllr Freeman. But the senior Tories could show some backbone. Cllrs Warwick, Ahern and Coleridge all want to be the next Leader. They can show some Leadership now and pass the word. "It is time to banish Phelps".

  13. What a puritanical lot blog away on this trashy website. Barry's pics are nothing more than tasteful, playful and innocent art

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So you think it is only the 'puritanical' who are shocked by an image of a chef looking at a 13 year old boy with a caption, " Chef fancies chicken tonight"?
You are presumably one of the councillors known to have an interest in under age boys. I hope your none of your colleagues share your view that they are 'tasteful, playful and innocent'
Making this sort of idiotic comment confirms that it was not just the convict ex Cllr Lamont who had a vile interest in pedophilia. You do the image of the Council much harm.

      Delete
    2. Exactly so. For much too long the Leaders of Kensington and Chelsea have found it convenient to "turn a blind eye". Or maybe they were sympathetic to the pedos. Those in charge at the BBC are finding out just how short sighted this behaviour can be. It is time for Cllr Cockell to learn the lesson too.

      Delete
    3. Cllr Palmer? can it be you?

      Delete
    4. I showed the images to a highly respected psychiatrist who has experience of these very sad and damaging matters. He told me: 1, that the photos are posed, they are not happy snaps, and that this brings up a lot of questions about how and why these boys were coerced, and 2, that they are pornographic. He said if the case had come to Court, and he had been an expert witness, he would state that Phelps was a paedophile.

So, according to him, and I believe him, Phelps is a paedophile. And this is the case even if he never laid a finger on any of them.

      Delete
    5. I have to say I find it difficult to understand Mr Phelps would get pleasure from these highly suggestive images and why he would need to caption them in a way that is clearly sexually suggestive.

Well said 12.06. Those of us who visited Berlin in the 30's and 40's know that this type of art was popular in artistic circles. The wimps of K&C should stiffen up and forget the nanny state

    2. So a bit like BBC senior managers standing by Savile...ughh! disgusting! If true you should be ashamed of yourself Buckmaster.

      Delete
    3. Buckmaster can see nothing wrong with the deviant emails sent out by Phelps. Pooter forced Phelps on the Council as Mayor. Pooter then chose Buckmaster as Mayor.

      Delete
  17. Cllr Buckmaster was personally asked by one of his residents before his Mayor Making Party to withdraw the invitation that he had sent to Phelps. But he refused.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Of course! These tax payer funded parties in the Town Hall are for the "in crowd" of friends and family. At the last Mayors Party Pooter struck out at least two names from the draft invitation list because they were "troublesome residents". In this patronage driven Administration, bow to the Dictator or you get punished.

      Delete
    2. The Mayor Making party is a celebration of pomp and tradition. Nothing wrong with that. But it is also a publicly funded event and should be kept in proportion. FOI data shows that Cllr Buckmaster's Party included 243 invitees. 104 were "friends and family" of the Mayor and 20 were "friends and family" of the Deputy Mayor. Too much self congratulation and self indulgence by Buffy

  18. It was the Labour Councillors who alerted the Dame to the Town Hall invitations to disgraced ex Cllr Phelps and asked for her help to stop the outrage. At least some of our Councillors have a sense of public standards

  19. Retired Chief Executive2 November 2012 at 12:14

Public Servants need to be very careful about how they spend public money. The reputation of K&C is not good, starting at the very top where Cllr Cockell has abused his office with his own concept of the "entitlement culture". Spending large amounts of tax payer funds on trips to the USA and entertaining friends at expensive restaurants and then charging it up.

It is easy to understand that a new Mayor wants his or her friends to share the celebration of their appointment. But this needs to be kept in proportion. Mayor Buckmaster is reported to have invited more than one hundred friends and family to his Mayor Making Party, paid for by tax payers. This seems excessive. In the circumstances it might have been more appropriate if invitees were asked to make a voluntary donation to attend his party (just like museum visitors are invited to do) or alternatively Cllr Buckmaster could have made a personal contribution to cover the cost of his guests.

In my organisation, it would have been the responsibility of the Chief Executive to administer a fair and just system

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. FOI data shows that the cost of drinks, food and staff at the Mayor Making Party was £17 per person. I invite Cllr Buckmaster to make a personal contribution to reimburse tax payers for the cost of his guests.

A similar request to Cllr Cockell to repay the $200 cost of a dinner at the Four Seasons Restaurant in New York for a "friend" on Saturday night was ignored. And there was also the $400 dinner for a GLA Councillor at Keans Restaurant in New York.....

      Delete
  20. The information shared by residents in this blog is sometimes very troubling. Elected persons need not like all of the people that they represent but they need to treat them equally. It is distressing to learn that Cllr Cockell has been arbitrarily striking off residents from Town Hall invitation lists for no other reason than "I do not like the cut of their cloth"
